The history of Lavazza coffee begins in 1894, when Luigi Lavazza bought a small colonial shop in Paissa Olivero, the old part of Turin, thus starting his own business. This small shop became the starting point for today’s huge Lavazza company. The company under the name Lavazza was officially founded the following year, in 1895. Luigi was the head of the company. The shop earned no more than 1,300 lire per week and sold practically everything; goods were delivered to homes, and sometimes the shop even served as a substitute for a tavern. At that time, Luigi Lavazza roasted his first coffee and immediately requested payment for the so-called copyrights covering the entire coffee production process.
